Burnin Down The House

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. This past Saturday, my 13-year-old had a wrestling tournament. If you've ever had a kid in wrestling, you know that these are all day events, sometimes not ending until way past 7pm. My son has always done well at wrestling, he's never not received a medal. We're usually one of the last ones at the tournament. SO...this particular day went something like this.
His first match he won. His second match he lost - was pinned by a friend so it wasn't that big deal. His third match he somehow got dropped on his head. You could hear the thud. I didn't see it because the ref was in my line of sight...but I heard it. His dad ran out to the mat to make sure he was okay. He was tested for a concussion by one of the coaches and he appeared to be okay. We were all really shaken up, so we decided to head home early -- no more wrestling for the day.
The plan was for Anthony to go to his dad's house, then I was going to meet my husband on the road and we were going to head to Coeur d'Alene to watch his daughter's dance recital. That didn't happen.
Anthony wanted his XBox, which he left at my house, so his dad said he'd drive him the 44 mile round trip distance to get it. Anthony was in the car w/his dad and I was following them in my car. I stopped to meet my husband and tell him I was exhausted and I wanted to go home and rest. Anthony and his dad were a few miles ahead of me when I got a call on my cell phone from his dad telling me to hurry up and get home, there's smoke every where and there's a fire!
Here's what happened...when I left in the morning. We have this roll top cabinet where we keep our toaster. I closed the cabinet down on the toaster handle, causing the toaster to be on from 7am until 4pm. Everything in the cabinet was burned and melted! Smoke was everywhere!
SOOO...had Anthony continued to win and earn a medal and we would have kept the original plans, no one would have been back to our house until at least 10pm. I honestly believe the house would have burned to the ground.
Everything happens for a reason...I believe God must've had a hand in dropping Anthony on his big ole head that day and causing us to come home early.
BTW...I'm getting new counter tops and cabinets...

I agree with you 100%....God was, and is still in all of our lives! There are numerous instances in my life where similar things have happened, things that could have turned out so much worse had it not been for that little glitch in our plans that changed the course of our being forever! Enjoyed reading your story....happened upon it while "shop hopping"! Stay safe, and enjoy your new counter tops....granite is DEFINITELY the way to go!!!by Pam Chaney, Texas on 18 March 2010 at 10:55 a.m.
